An Evening with Brian Eno & David Byrne

Filed under: Music, Personal, Uncategorized — alexboerner @ 2:35 am

Over the past year and a half I’ve become a total geek for The Talking Heads and David Byrne.
So I was psyched when I found out he was coming to Miami while on tour following the release of the new album, Everything That Happens Will Happen Today, a collaboration between he and producer Brian Eno, who produced quite a bit of TH music in the past.
The show was everything I was hoping it would be. It brought whimsical and complex dancing, mixed with great colors and awesome music of course.
Here’s 16 shots of the stage throughout the night.

FADER – Brisco

I’ve been fortunate to have shot a few assignments for FADER magazine over the past year. It’s an honor to be asked to contribute to a publication that utilizes a lot of incredible documentary photographers and uses their photography extremely well. So when the new issue came in the mail the other day I was excited to see that the latest assignment I shot for them about a rapper named Brisco from South Florida was used for the opening of the Gen-F section.

Little Brother Gets the Led Out

Filed under: Family, Music, Personal, Uncategorized — alexboerner @ 10:16 pm

My brother and sister are awesome and I’m so happy that our bond keeps getting stronger as we get older, especially considering that they’re twins and could have easily shut me out! Ha. With that said, I have to brag on my little brother for a second. He’s been a member of the band “Fancy Bastard” for a little while now. He’s made some good friends in the music scene and last week he was invited up on stage to sing a song with Minneapolis based band, God Johnson, at their farewell show June 25th at the Cabooze in MPLS.

He told me he was really nervous and that there were about a thousand people packed into the bar for the show. To make it worse, he was going to sing Led Zepplin’s “Heartbreaker/Living Loving Maid.” I’m no singer, but I can only imagine that it would have to be a little intimidating trying to pull off a Robert Plant-esque performance.

The nerves showed a little at the beginning, but he calmed down and did a damn fine job and didn’t come off too cool like these goofballs…yuck.

I know this seems like someone pushing baby pictures on an unsuspecting stranger, but if you care to listen go here and find “Heartbreaker” in the song list in the upper right hand corner. Or listen to the whole show.

One Night With A Bastard

Filed under: Music, Personal — alexboerner @ 8:20 pm

About a year ago I got to spend the evening on a road trip with Fancy Bastard, a Minneapolis based band of which my brother, Mitch, happens to be a part. They played at a place called the L-Cove in Minnesota City, MN.

It was certainly a small bar in a small town, and we weren’t sure whether the band would be welcomed by the locals or not, but the show went on.

The first half of the show was pretty subdued. People were still trying to have their own conversations over the music. But between sets the whole joint loosened up and it turned out to be what the owner called “the best night we’ve had since I’ve owned the place.”
